He took music lessons from age 8 through high school, and continued his education at the University of Michigan, where he got a BFA in Jazz Studies. During his time at Michigan and shortly after, he found a new love; producing and audio engineering. Since moving to New York in 2023, he started working at Douglass Recording Studio, first as an intern and now as an assistant engineer. When he’s not at Douglass, you can find him playing bass at venues around New York, on Broadway, and all over the country, or making music in his bedroom.
Wendy Kya
Assistant Engineer
Wendy Kya is a recording engineer, producer, and musician. Classically trained, she studied music composition and production at Purchase Conservatory of Music. She cut her teeth in the diy punk and indie scenes recording and live engineering. So far professionally she has worked on several alternative/punk/emo/folk EPs and albums, sound design for short films and plays, as well as the mastering engineer for live recordings of chamber music concerts, and many scrappy home recordings. In the studio she focuses on bringing the energy and creativity from the diy underground world and blending it with the attention to detail you get from years of classical training.
Peter Karl
Peter Karl has been recording music since the age of 10 when he was given a cassette recorder by his parents. After working in the sound department at Channel 13 in New York City for nine years, he opened his own recording studio in Gowanus, right down the street from Douglass Recording (on the very same block.) It was highly regarded for more than 2 decades, where Peter recorded greats including Norah Jones, Reggie Workman and Arturo O’Farrill. He’s now made Douglass Recording his home, and we couldn’t be happier to have his extensive knowledge, skill, and awful/awesome dad jokes.
